NY 2015 Renegade | Long Island Jeep Dealership

All new for 2015, the Jeep Renegade leads one of the toughest and All-American car brands solidly into compact crossover territory. More funky than rugged, this ultra compact Jeep is likely to cause some dissension among Jeep's faithful adherents. However Jeep is assuring the public that at least one of these models can handle some rough and tumble, and although base models will be front-wheel drive, the full-time 4x4 ("Jeep Active Drive") is an exciting alternative for other models. A rear axle which can detach when not being utilized for traction is being touted as the answer to better fuel economy. The top of line Trailhawk is engineered to tackle serious off-road performance, showcasing a taller ride height and clearance, 17-inch wheels, hill descent control and a 4WD system which will allow for slow climbing up steep hills. All 4WD models offer Selec-Terrain dynamic modes, which will maximize traction is adverse conditions, be they snow, sand, mud or stone.

Even though there is off-road capability built into the Renegade, the entry-level Jeep will more likely be found on suburban streets. The interior is not your typical Jeep, and shows off a well thought out sophisticated design. Although not typical, it doesn't forsake its brand, with military-influenced textures, truck-like gauges, and multiple Jeep logos incorporated throughout the design. The seats are comfortable and supportive, and the rear-seat area can accommodate two adults. Ā There's a copious amount of cargo space behind the rear seat, surprising for a subcompact; that same rear seat folds down, as does the front passenger seat-allowing long items to stored diagonally.

The Jeep Renegade is powered by one of two four-cylinder engines: a turbocharged 1.4-liter (160 horsepower) or more robust non-turbo 2.4-liter (184 hp.) Ā The smaller engine is teamed up with a six-speed manual transmission; while the 2.4-liter is partnered to a nine-speed automatic. Ā Coming in at 1' 4" shorter and 2 inches slimmer than its brother Cherokee, the Renegade joins the family as its smallest member. However, it shares many family characteristics, even stealing the idea of al fresco driving from the Wrangler and offering dual sunroofs. Smartphone-integrated infotainment, a 7-inch customizable gauge display, and driver assistance systems such as a rearview camera, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and forward collision warning are all resident in the diminutive Jeep.

This subcompact baby of the Jeep family has plenty of family resemblance, but exhibits its own personality as well. With a smooth and quiet ride and compliant manners on the road, the 2015 Jeep Renegade is the Jeep for those who don't need rugged off-road capability, but still respect the legacy of the brand. Come into our Jeep dealer showroom today to meet the newest addition, and be prepared to bring one home.
